The Beginning - Tutu Sweet

Good morning, it is my turn to post on the blog today.  It is my FIRST turn and I am a little nervous after seeing all the wonderful posts by my design team friends.  I have been wracking my brain as to what my first post should be but, after several changes in ideas, I have decided to go back to the beginning.  The beginning of what you ask?  The beginning of my addiction to Melissa's adorable digital stamps and the digital crafting world.

My first, and still my most favorite, of Melissa's stamps is Tutu Sweet.  I found this stamp around dance recital time and decided to use it to make gifts for my daughters dance teachers and my sister.  Now, to be honest, this was also the beginning of my love affair with copic markers so I was trying out a lot of new techniques with this image.  I apologize for my photos as well, I was just learning Photoshop and went a little to heavy on the enhancements.

Since I had several people to make gifts for I made the same clip in different colors.

Isn't she just such a cutie?  I'm glad you were able to take this walk down memory lane with me.
Until next time,

Out Of The Box Technique

Hi there and thanks for stopping by!
It is my day to share with you.  As you see on my card I have the bunny's ears sticking up out of my circle. This is one of my favorite techniques and is so easy to do. I have a picture below that hopefully help you understand how. To obtain this look all you do is cut the portion you want to be out of the box and then slide the die over it and run it through our machine. Ta da simple huh?

For my card I used this sweet image Fluffy Bunny. I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and use it on some of your cards.

How to Use Dimentionals Tutorial

Take you projects to another DIMENTION by using dimentionals. I love the look of dimentionals on a card or project. They add more depth and interest to your work. I regularly use dimentionals to the back of an image or the image's frame to pop it up from the main layers of a card. Today I will talk about how to use dimentionals to add a 3D look to your images.

I colored the new March release "Kitty in Sock" image. I was unsatisfied with the way the color of the cat. It was the same color intensity of the sock and I felt that what was to be the focal point became lost in the image.

I made a duplicate copy of the image and colored just the cat's head. I made the colors lighter and added more contrast.

Very carefully, I cut out the cat. I tried to stay right at the outline.

Then, I added dimentionals to the cat for placement on the image. Depending on the look you want to achieve you can double up dimentionals or use a thicker dimentional for a more dramatic look.

This is a side view of the image with the head attached. When cutting the image out there will be some white areas of paper that will need to be touched up with your marker.

Next, I add dimentionals to the frame that will hold my image. These varied dimentions make my image the focal point in all the varied papers and layers.

Finally, I add dimentionals to my newly created image.

Waa Laa. I turned a mistake into a focal point for my card. My image takes center stage. This technique might save you from having to recolor an entire image or it might be one you use to draw attention to a focal point of an image. Either way it will make your work pop and take it to the next DIMENTION.

This is what I call SWEEEEEEET!

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!!  That's the feeling I get from this card, how about you??  Doesn't Joni know how to make you feel good?  This card makes me wonder if she gave this to her hubby or one of her gorgeous children, who she has nicknamed 'SWEETS'!  What a feel-good, springy time card, just lovely for any occasion!

Using Candy Land Dreams, Joni rocked out this 'SWEET' card for us today!  I love the little details!  Like the ribbon tied to the swirly, green cardstock and the skinny sliver layering of the same green cardstock under the patterned paper!  LOVE is in the details, you know!

Do you want to see more from Joni?  You do!???? Well go pop on over to her blog!  She will surely get your mojo moving!!  Thanks again, Joni!!

On a side note, did you see Melissa's announcement earlier this week?  She has some brand NEW rubber stamps at her corner of Whimsy Stamps!   Some are even customizable just for you!!  See what I mean.....

Did you see this week's challenge?  It sounds easy, but I don't know!  Using NO COLOR sounds difficult to me! Sew Country Bunny

Here is an adorable image called "Sew Country Bunny" by Meljen's Design.  I just fell in love with her, so cute.  I colored my bunny with Copic Markers.  My designer paper is Blink of an Eye by My Mind's Eye. My finishing touches are blue/white striped twine with an orange heart button and orange pearls.

This was an easy card to create.  See what you can do with all the wonderful images offered by Meljen's Designs.  Have a fabulous Friday and weekend.

Memory Lane

Hey there everyone, it's Jessica here. Today I am going to share with you my very first Meljen's card from my stint as a Guest Designer.

I was so excited to be asked by my friend, Dee to be the August 2010 guest designer. I thought that meant I had made it in the crafting world. Ask Dee, I was giddy like a school girl. The only concern I had was that I was going to be embarking on a two week road trip from Oregon to Indiana at the same time. I decided that I was not going to let that stop me. Once we got to the in-laws house I made my Mother-in-Law take me to Archivers. It was my first time and I was in crafter heaven. Seriously I thought I was going to die from all the awesomeness. I had my image already picked out for my first post. I was going to use Fru Fru Fairy Pony, so next I scoured the store for the right papers and embellishments. Man that was fun. Despite my limited supplies I was able to rock out a fun first card that I am still super proud of.

Apparently I left a good impression with the ladies here at Meljen's because not to long after my GD stint I was asked back as a full time DT member. I am so thankful for being a part of this team and being able to showcase Melissa's wonderful designs. I can't wait to see what 2012 brings.

Thanks for taking this trip down memory lane with me. That was fun. Enjoy your week everyone.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It's another fabby day with Joni!   Being St. Patty's Day, she created the perfect card!  It may not be GREEN, but it has a green-LUCKY-feeling to it! See what I mean below.....

Joni created this SUPER vibrant 'Good Luck' card using Melissa's Pot O' Gold digi!  Isn't it just amazing?  I LOVE LOVE LOVE her use of twine to make a rainbow for the card, just a gorgeous feature to this card!  Wouldn't this card make you feel like you had all of the BIGGEST well-wishes given to you, for whatever you were about to try to accomplish?  From a marathon to a final exam at college, I know I would love this card for support and it would be a keeper, something I would probably want to frame to cherish for all times!

Be sure to see check out more from Joni at her blog!  Do you feel like creating more for St. Patrick's Day today?  You can see ALL of Melissa's St. Patty's images HERE and her rubber stamps, too, at her corner of Whimsy Stamps!   And don't forget to join in on our latest challenge, too!  It's a LACEY CHALLENGE!!
